Suspension Repair

Clunks over bumps, a floaty ride, wandering steering or tires wearing unevenly. Worn suspension is a safety item long before it is a comfort one.

Signs You Need Suspension Repair

Most of these build slowly, so they are easy to get used to.

  • Knocking over bumps: a worn link is a noise; a worn ball joint is a safety item.
  • The car still bouncing after a dip: worn dampers let the tire lose contact with the road.
  • Steering that wanders: needing constant small corrections on a straight road.
  • Cupped or uneven tire wear: a scalloped pattern almost always means dampers.
  • Nose diving under braking: it lengthens your stopping distance.

What We Do

We inspect on a lift, loaded and unloaded, and show you any play we find.

  • Inspect on a lift, loaded and unloaded. Some worn joints only show under load. We check ball joints, bushings, links, struts and mounts properly rather than by bouncing a corner.
  • Show you the play. If a joint is worn, we show you the movement so you can see it for yourself.
  • Replace in pairs where it matters. Dampers are replaced in pairs across an axle. Mixing a new strut with a worn one makes the car handle worse than leaving both alone.
  • Align afterwards. Suspension work changes the geometry, so an alignment afterwards is part of doing the job properly.

How We Quote It

We inspect before quoting, because recommending parts from a description is how people end up paying for the wrong ones. Once we know what your vehicle needs, you get a written estimate covering parts and labor.

If we find something extra mid-job, we stop and call you with the measurement and the cost. Nothing gets done without your approval.

Every repair carries a 1, 2 or 3 year warranty, capped at 12,000, 24,000 or 36,000 miles respectively, whichever comes first. Ask us which one covers your repair; it is printed on the invoice either way.

Common Questions

How do I know if my struts are worn?

Bounce is a rough guide, but tire cupping and a longer stopping distance are the real signs. Worn dampers let the tire lose contact with the road.

Is a clunk dangerous?

It depends what is clunking. A sway bar link is a noise; a ball joint is a component that can separate. That's why we find out which it is.

Do I need an alignment after suspension work?

Yes. Replacing control arms, struts or tie rods changes the geometry, and skipping the alignment wears the new tires you probably just fitted.
