State Inspection & Emissions Test in Hurst, TX

Need a state inspection in Hurst? Since January 2025 Texas only requires the yearly emissions test for personal vehicles, and in Tarrant County it comes before you renew your registration. We are an official emissions inspection station, and the test is usually done while you wait.

Signs You Need State Inspection

Most gasoline cars and trucks registered in Tarrant County need a passing emissions test each year. These are the usual reasons people come in.

  • Registration renewal due: in Tarrant County the emissions test comes first.
  • New to Texas: a vehicle registered in an emissions county needs the test before it can be registered here.
  • The check engine light is on: an illuminated light fails the emissions test, so it is worth fixing first.
  • A recent battery or engine repair: the car's computer needs some normal driving afterwards before it is ready to test.

What We Do

The emissions test reads your car's own computer, the on-board diagnostics (OBD-II) system.

  • Plug into the OBD-II port. Gasoline vehicles from 2 through 24 years old are tested by reading the car's on-board computer rather than measuring the tailpipe.
  • Check the monitors are ready. The computer runs its own self-tests as you drive. If enough of them have not finished, usually after a battery change or a repair, the car is not ready to test yet and we will tell you.
  • Results filed electronically. A pass goes straight to the state system, so your registration can be renewed.
  • No pressure to repair here. If it fails, you get the reason in writing. You can have it repaired anywhere you like and come back here for the retest.

How We Quote It

We inspect before quoting, because recommending parts from a description is how people end up paying for the wrong ones. Once we know what your vehicle needs, you get a written estimate covering parts and labor.

If we find something extra mid-job, we stop and call you with the measurement and the cost. Nothing gets done without your approval.

Every repair carries a 1, 2 or 3 year warranty, capped at 12,000, 24,000 or 36,000 miles respectively, whichever comes first. Ask us which one covers your repair; it is printed on the invoice either way.

Coming From Nearby

Every city around us is in a county that still requires the yearly emissions test: Tarrant, Dallas or Denton. So the rule is the same whether you live in Hurst, Bedford, Euless or Grapevine.

You can walk in on the way to work or at lunch. The test usually takes around half an hour, and there's a waiting lounge with free Wi-Fi.

Common Questions

Do I still need a state inspection in Texas?

Personal vehicles no longer need a safety inspection since January 1, 2025. In Tarrant County, gasoline vehicles from 2 through 24 years old still need a yearly emissions test before registration renewal. That emissions test is what we do here.

How long does the emissions test take?

Usually around half an hour if we aren't busy. Walk-ins are welcome, and booking ahead means we can hold a slot for you.

Does a check engine light fail the test?

Yes. An illuminated check engine light is a failure. We can diagnose the cause first, so you test once rather than twice.

Do you do commercial vehicle safety inspections?

No. Commercial vehicles still need a Texas safety inspection, and we are an emissions inspection station only.

What happens if my car fails?

You get a written report of what failed. You can have it repaired anywhere and come back for the retest.
