Tire Rotation
Front and rear tires do different jobs and wear at different rates. Moving them around on a regular schedule evens that out, so all four wear down together instead of one pair running out early.
Signs You Need Tire Rotation
A rotation is routine maintenance, so most of the time there is nothing to notice. These are the reminders to book one.
- Your maintenance schedule calls for it: many manufacturers suggest somewhere around 5,000 to 7,500 miles, which often lines up with an oil change.
- Fronts more worn than rears: on a front-wheel-drive car the front tires steer, brake and drive, so they wear first.
- An all-wheel-drive vehicle: many systems are sensitive to tread depth differences between tires, so even wear matters more.
- Wear on the edges or in patches: rotation spreads it out, but it can also point at alignment or suspension, which rotation will not fix.
What We Do
With every wheel off the car, a rotation is the natural moment to look properly at each tire, so we do.
- Use the right pattern. The pattern depends on the drive layout and the tires. Directional tires stay on the same side, and staggered setups with different sizes front and rear may not move front to back at all.
- Measure tread on all four. Tread depth is recorded at several points across each tire. Uneven readings show a pressure, alignment or suspension issue early, and we tell you what we see without assuming it needs work.
- Check each tire in hand. Sidewall bulges, nails in the tread and the fine cracking that Texas sun causes are far easier to spot with the wheel off than on the car.
- Tighten and set pressures. Lug nuts go on in a star pattern to the manufacturer's figure, and pressures are set to the placard in the door jamb, not the maximum printed on the sidewall. Some vehicles also need the tire pressure sensors relearned after the tires move.
How We Quote It
We inspect before quoting, because recommending parts from a description is how people end up paying for the wrong ones. Once we know what your vehicle needs, you get a written estimate covering parts and labor.
If we find something extra mid-job, we stop and call you with the measurement and the cost. Nothing gets done without your approval.
Every repair carries a 1, 2 or 3 year warranty, capped at 12,000, 24,000 or 36,000 miles respectively, whichever comes first. Ask us which one covers your repair; it is printed on the invoice either way.
Common Questions
Does rotation actually make a difference?
Yes, mainly by keeping wear even. Without it one axle wears out well ahead of the other and you end up buying tires in pairs more often. It does not slow how fast rubber wears overall, only how evenly.
Why does rotation matter more on all-wheel drive?
A worn tire is a slightly smaller tire. Many all-wheel-drive systems read a size difference between tires as wheel slip, which puts extra strain on the center coupling or differential. Some manufacturers ask for all four to be replaced together if the difference gets too large.
Will rotating my tires stop the car pulling?
No. A pull usually comes from alignment or from a tire itself. Rotating can move or change the pull, which helps tell us which it is, but it is not the fix.
Tire Rotation
A set of tires rotated on schedule lasts noticeably longer.
