Exhaust & Muffler Repair
Muffler and exhaust repair for mufflers, pipes, hangers and catalytic converters. Whether it has got loud or is failing emissions, we find the part of the system that has failed and repair that.
Signs You Need Exhaust & Mufflers
Most exhaust faults make themselves heard. The dangerous ones can be quiet, so an exhaust smell inside the car always counts.
- A roar that developed gradually: a hole that has been growing for a while.
- Rattling from underneath: often a heat shield, sometimes the converter internals.
- Exhaust smell inside the car: treat this as urgent; carbon monoxide is not something to leave.
- A P0420 code: which very often is not the converter at all.
- Visible rust holes or a dragging pipe: straightforward, and usually a section repair.
What We Do
We find the section that has actually failed instead of quoting the whole system.
- Find the actual leak. The system is inspected end to end. A blowing gasket at the manifold sounds much like a holed muffler from inside the car, and the repair is nothing alike.
- Check before condemning a converter. A P0420 often means an upstream sensor or an exhaust leak, not a failed converter. We test before recommending the most expensive part on the system.
- Section repairs where sensible. If one section has failed we replace that section rather than the whole system, provided the rest is sound.
- Check for exhaust entering the cabin. Any exhaust smell inside gets treated as urgent. Carbon monoxide is not something to leave until next month.
How We Quote It
We inspect before quoting, because recommending parts from a description is how people end up paying for the wrong ones. Once we know what your vehicle needs, you get a written estimate covering parts and labor.
If we find something extra mid-job, we stop and call you with the measurement and the cost. Nothing gets done without your approval.
Every repair carries a 1, 2 or 3 year warranty, capped at 12,000, 24,000 or 36,000 miles respectively, whichever comes first. Ask us which one covers your repair; it is printed on the invoice either way.
Common Questions
Does a P0420 code mean I need a catalytic converter?
Not necessarily, and that assumption is expensive. An exhaust leak or a lazy oxygen sensor produces the same code. We test first.
My exhaust just got loud. Is it dangerous?
It can be, if the leak is ahead of the cabin, because fumes can get inside. Come in and let us find where it is.
Can you make my car quieter?
Yes. Whether that means a repair or a different muffler depends on what has failed, and we'll go through the options with you.
