Engine Repair
We handle everything from a misfire to major internal work. We diagnose first and tell you what a repair is worth on your vehicle, and sometimes the right advice is not to spend the money.

Signs You Need Engine Repair
A wrong recommendation on engine work is expensive, so we test before we advise. These are the symptoms that usually bring people in.
- Knocking or ticking: a noise that changes with engine speed is coming from inside.
- Blue, white or black smoke: oil, coolant and fuel respectively, and three different repairs.
- Losing oil or coolant with no leak: it is going somewhere, usually through the combustion chamber.
- Overheating that returns: after a cooling system repair, this is the one to take seriously.
- A significant loss of power: worth compression testing before spending on parts.
What We Do
We establish the actual mechanical condition first, then talk plainly about whether the repair is worth doing on your vehicle.
- Establish the actual condition. Compression and leak-down testing, oil condition, coolant chemistry and stored data. That distinguishes a sensor fault from a mechanical one.
- Explain the options plainly. Repair, replace, or don't spend the money. We will tell you when a repair costs more than the vehicle is worth to you.
- Quote before work begins. Nothing gets opened up beyond agreed diagnosis without your say-so, and if a teardown changes the picture, we call you before doing anything more.
- Warranty the work. Engine repairs carry the same 1, 2 or 3 year warranty as everything else we do, capped at 12,000, 24,000 or 36,000 miles respectively.
How We Quote It
We inspect before quoting, because recommending parts from a description is how people end up paying for the wrong ones. Once we know what your vehicle needs, you get a written estimate covering parts and labor.
If we find something extra mid-job, we stop and call you with the measurement and the cost. Nothing gets done without your approval.
Every repair carries a 1, 2 or 3 year warranty, capped at 12,000, 24,000 or 36,000 miles respectively, whichever comes first. Ask us which one covers your repair; it is printed on the invoice either way.
Common Questions
Is it worth repairing an old engine?
Sometimes, and sometimes not. It depends on the rest of the vehicle, what the repair involves and what you want to do with the car. We'll give you our honest read.
What does blue smoke mean?
Oil entering the combustion chamber, usually valve stem seals or rings. White smoke is coolant and black is excess fuel.
Do you do engine replacements?
We do, and we'll be straight about whether it is the right call for your vehicle before you commit to it.
