Car Tune-Up
A car tune-up today means finding which ignition or fuel component has drifted out of spec, whether the symptom is rough idle, misfires, hesitation or fuel economy that has slowly slipped.

Signs You Need Tune-Ups
These are the symptoms that point at a worn or drifting ignition or fuel component.
- Shaking or stumbling at idle: a misfire is the usual cause, and the data names the cylinder.
- Hesitation when you accelerate: a flat spot points at fuel delivery or ignition under load.
- Fuel economy noticeably worse: worth investigating before it becomes a failed inspection.
- Hard starting when cold: plugs, coils or a fuel pressure problem that only shows cold.
- A misfire code or flashing light: a flashing light means stop driving; the converter is at risk.
What We Do
We identify the failing component first, so you are not replacing all eight of something to fix one.
- Identify the actual fault. Misfire counts per cylinder, ignition waveform and fuel trims. That narrows it to a plug, a coil, an injector or a vacuum leak before anything is opened up.
- Plugs to specification. Correct heat range, correct gap, anti-seize where the manufacturer calls for it, torqued properly. An over-tightened plug in an aluminum head is an expensive mistake.
- Coils, filters and airflow. Coil packs tested rather than swapped on suspicion, plus air filter and, where fitted, the throttle body and idle passages.
- Road test and re-check. We confirm trims have returned to normal and the misfire is gone under load as well as at idle in the bay.
How We Quote It
We inspect before quoting, because recommending parts from a description is how people end up paying for the wrong ones. Once we know what your vehicle needs, you get a written estimate covering parts and labor.
If we find something extra mid-job, we stop and call you with the measurement and the cost. Nothing gets done without your approval.
Every repair carries a 1, 2 or 3 year warranty, capped at 12,000, 24,000 or 36,000 miles respectively, whichever comes first. Ask us which one covers your repair; it is printed on the invoice either way.
Common Questions
How often does a modern car need a tune-up?
Modern ignition systems don't need annual attention. Plugs typically run 60,000 to 100,000 miles, and a misfire gets dealt with when it appears.
Will a tune-up fix my fuel economy?
It can, if the cause is ignition or airflow related. It won't fix economy lost to dragging brakes, low tire pressure or a failing thermostat, which is why we check those too.
Is a misfire urgent?
A steady light, not immediately. A flashing light, yes. Raw fuel reaching the catalytic converter destroys it quickly.
