Car Battery Testing & Replacement
Need a car battery replacement, or just a straight answer? Slow cranking, a dashboard that dims when you start, or a car that was fine yesterday: we test the battery, the alternator and the starter draw before selling you anything.
Signs You Need Car Battery Testing & Replacement
A battery rarely fails without warning. It usually gives you a week of hints first, and these are the common ones.
- Slow cranking: especially first thing, and especially after a hot spell.
- Lights dimming as you crank: the battery is struggling to hold voltage under load.
- A battery or charging light: which may be the alternator rather than the battery.
- Needing a jump more than once: something is wrong beyond a flat battery.
- More than four years old: Texas heat is what kills batteries; the cold morning is when you find out.
What We Do
We test the whole charging system before recommending a battery.
- Test the battery and charging. A conductance test on the battery plus a charging system test. A new battery on a car with a failing alternator strands you again within a couple of weeks.
- Check the draw. If the battery keeps going flat with a healthy charging system, something is drawing current with the car asleep. We measure it.
- Correct specification. Group size, cold cranking amps and type. Vehicles with stop-start need an AGM or EFB battery; fitting a standard one shortens its life dramatically.
- Register and clean up. Terminals cleaned, hold-down fitted properly, and the battery registered to the vehicle where the charging strategy requires it.
How We Quote It
We inspect before quoting, because recommending parts from a description is how people end up paying for the wrong ones. Once we know what your vehicle needs, you get a written estimate covering parts and labor.
If we find something extra mid-job, we stop and call you with the measurement and the cost. Nothing gets done without your approval.
Every repair carries a 1, 2 or 3 year warranty, capped at 12,000, 24,000 or 36,000 miles respectively, whichever comes first. Ask us which one covers your repair; it is printed on the invoice either way.
Common Questions
How long should a battery last here?
Three to five years is typical, and Texas heat is harder on batteries than cold is. Heat is what kills them; the cold morning is just when you find out.
Do you test batteries?
Yes, and the test is free while you wait. On busy days there may be a short wait for a free bay. If it turns out to be the alternator or a parasitic draw we'll tell you that instead.
Why does my new battery keep dying?
Usually a charging fault or something staying awake: a trunk light, an aftermarket accessory, a failing module. It needs measuring rather than another battery.
