Auto Electrical Repair & Diagnostics
Auto electrical repair starts with measuring. A battery that dies overnight, a circuit that works one day and not the next, or a warning light nobody can explain: we take the time to trace the fault to its cause.
Signs You Need Auto Electrical Repair & Diagnostics
Electrical faults are often intermittent, which is why they get passed from shop to shop. These are the common ones.
- A battery that goes flat when parked: something stays awake after the car is locked and drains it overnight or over a few days.
- Things that work only some of the time: a window, a gauge or a light that comes and goes usually points at a connection, not the component.
- Several unrelated warnings at once: a common sign of a bad ground or a module dropping off the network.
- The same fuse blowing repeatedly: a wire chafed through to metal somewhere, or a component drawing more current than it should.
- Problems that began after an accessory was fitted: remote starters, dash cams and stereo wiring are frequent sources of drains and faults.
- Faults after rain or a car wash: water reaching a connector or ground point that should stay dry.
What We Do
We confirm the fault, then follow the wiring with a meter. Diagnostic time is agreed with you up front, and we call before going past it.
- Reproduce the complaint. We start by seeing the fault ourselves, or by finding the conditions that trigger it: heat, damp, a bump in the road or a particular combination of switches.
- Work from the wiring diagram. The manufacturer's diagram shows every connector, splice and ground on the circuit, so testing follows the actual wire instead of a hunch.
- Voltage drop, not just continuity. A wire hanging on by a few strands passes a simple continuity test and still fails under load. We measure the circuit while it is carrying current.
- Measure a drain with the car asleep. Modules take time to go to sleep after the car is locked. We wait for that, then find the circuit that stays awake by measuring across each fuse rather than pulling them, which can wake the modules and hide the fault.
How We Quote It
We inspect before quoting, because recommending parts from a description is how people end up paying for the wrong ones. Once we know what your vehicle needs, you get a written estimate covering parts and labor.
If we find something extra mid-job, we stop and call you with the measurement and the cost. Nothing gets done without your approval.
Every repair carries a 1, 2 or 3 year warranty, capped at 12,000, 24,000 or 36,000 miles respectively, whichever comes first. Ask us which one covers your repair; it is printed on the invoice either way.
Common Questions
How much battery drain is normal?
Every car draws a small current when parked to keep memory, the clock and the security system alive. On many vehicles that settles well under 50 milliamps once the modules sleep, but the acceptable figure varies, and we check against yours.
Why does electrical diagnosis take time?
Because the fault often has to be caught while it is happening. A part that fails intermittently can test perfectly on the bench. Tracing the wiring is slower than guessing, and it saves you paying for parts on a hunch.
Can rodents cause electrical problems?
Yes. Mice and rats chew wiring insulation, especially on vehicles that sit for a while. The damage can be anywhere along a harness, so we inspect the full length of the affected circuit.
What if the problem is an accessory someone fitted later?
We show you what we found and the options: correcting the wiring, fitting it properly, or removing it. It is your car and your choice.
